WWDC23 and What It Means to Simpletext

·

It was a big week for Apple. They showcased the latest technologies across their entire software lineup, and unveiled an all-new spatial computing platform with Vision Pro. With the latest enhancements in iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, what does it all mean to Simpletext?

Amidst the flurry of new features, I thought it’s a good time to reiterate what Simpletext stands for — simplicity. Simpletext will continue to be updated to adopt the latest technologies from Apple, but it won’t have any new features. Instead, the updates will be centred around performance improvements and cohesiveness with the rest of the operating system.

It’s a tough position to be in, because conventional wisdom has it that the more the features, the better the app. It’s hard to sell more people an app with less features. But it’s an approach that Simpletext has stood by for over five years now, and will continue to do so.

In a world where everyone seems to be always in a rush, it’s important to slow down and seek for experiences that are truly fulfilling.

I hope Simpletext will inspire you to write more.
